What is EPD

ISO 14025 is a standard that provides guidelines for the development and use of environmental product declarations (EPDs).

According to ISO 14025, an EPD is a document that communicates transparent and verifiable information about the environmental impact of a product or service throughout its life cycle.

The EPD includes data on the product's environmental performance in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, water use, and waste generation..

ISO 14025 defines EPD as "a type III environmental declaration that quantifies environmental information on the life cycle of a product to enable comparisons between products fulfilling the same function."

In other words, an EPD is a standardized way of presenting environmental information about a product in a way that allows consumers, businesses, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions about the environmental impact of their choices.

To obtain EPD certification from The International EPD System, you should follow the steps outlined below:

Develop your EPD:Create your EPD report according to the requirements of the international EPD system, which includes life cycle assessment (LCA) of your product and preparation of EPD documentation according to the relevant product category rules (PCR) and the ISO 14025 standard.

Apply to BQC:The International EPD System does not perform the verifications directly, but they have through a network of approved verification organizations and individual verifiers who can implement the verification process. BQC verifiers can guide you all the way through to EPD verification.

Submit your EPD for verification:Submit your EPD documentation, including your EPD report and supporting data. BQC will evaluate EPD data, methodology, and documentation to ensure compliance with the requirements of The International EPD System.

Resolution of Verification Findings :If BQC identifies any discrepancies or issues during the verification process, action may be required by providing additional information, clarifications, or corrections to the EPD documentation.

Obtain a verification report:Once the verification process is complete, BQC will issue a verification report, which can confirm that the EPD is in line with international EPD requirements or makes recommendations for improvement.

An EPD can be a valuable tool for the environmental performance of an organization's products as well.
The process of creating an EPD requires a detailed analysis of the product's life cycle, which can help the organization identify areas where it can to reduce environmental impact and improve product sustainability.

An EPD can help an organization comply with environmental regulations and policies, as it provides verifiable and standardized information on the environmental impact of its products.
